Are you overprotective about your child? Overprotective parenting might result in a number of problems in the child when he or she grows up into an adult. Below we have discussed about the common ill effects of overprotective parenting.
Low self-confidence: One of the primary messages that overprotective parents convey to their children is that the children are not bold enough to handle different challenges of life themselves. Children of overprotective parents often feel that if their parents are not with them in every decision they take in life, they will fail to achieve success. Such children find it hard to work without the guidance of their parents even when they become adults.
Behavior problems: There are instances when children of overprotective parents have turned into rebels after becoming adults. These parents often tend to believe that they have complete control over their children; however, the fact is that by overprotecting the children, these parents are inviting behavior problems in the children when they grow up.
Risk-taking: When children of overprotective parents grow older i.e. as they attain teenage and gets to spend a particular number of hours without their parents, they might start taking risks. The chances of taking risks are more in children of overprotective parents compared to children who are not victims of overprotective parenting. The primary reason behind the risk taking nature of these children is lack of responsibility.
Low self-esteem: Another common ill effect of overprotective parenting is low self-esteem among the children even when they become adults. Overprotective parents do not allow their children to face the challenges of life; if ever they allow the children to do so, the entire act is conducted with serious parental intervention. This nature of overprotective parents does not allow the self-esteem of their children to grow properly.
