According to experts, a child gets ready to learn the differences between colors after crossing the age of two years. As the parent of a growing child, you must start teaching your child colors when he is between the ages of 2 and 3 years. The child might not be able to remember all colors by their names right away; however, introducing the concept of colors to him will automatically develop a sense of differentiating between colors within him. In this article, we have presented some tips for mothers planning to teach colors to their little children.
- During the mealtimes, point out different colors present in his food plate. Things will be more interesting for the child, if y
ou offer him a number of bright colored foods; for instance: carrots, blueberries, strawberries etc. Ask him to name the color of that particular food item, which he wants to eat.
- You can also teach color to your little one through clothes. Lay 2 or 3 outfit choices on the bed and ask him which color he is wishing to wear. Doing this regularly will automatically make the child familiar with the colors.
- Take the little one for a long drive. As you pass the roads, ask him the names of the colors pointing out at the traffic signs. He might falter initially, but soon you will find him identifying the green and red colors comfortably. You can also give him a color’s name and ask him to point everything of that color on the road. This game will make the child happy and also allow you to understand whether he is identifying his colors correctly.
- Once your child has developed a basic idea of colors, buy him a pack of crayons. He will surely love spending time with it.
