Remedies for Dry Skin in Children



Although often we associate dry skin with aging individuals, it can occur in people of any age group. Even a child can develop extremely dry skin. This might happen due to a number of factors; for instance low humidity during the winter months, using harsh soaps for prolonged period of time, misusing the moisturizers etc. Dry skin in children can trigger severe conditions like eczema, a condition marked by appearance of dry and flaky patches on the skin. To avoid onset of such conditions, use some simple remedies for treating your child’s dry skin.

  1. Remedies for dry skin in childrenWash all the clothes of your child carefully; it is advisable to use unscented detergents for the purpose. Never forget to rinse your child’s clothes twice; this will ensure that no trace of detergent is left in them. If your child has dry skin, you can also opt for detergents specially made for people with sensitive skin.
  2. To ensure that you child’s skin does not get dry any further, limit his bathing time. A child should be bathed for a maximum of 10 minutes.
  3. The child should be taught the methods of skin cleansing. Teach him how to scrub the skTreating children dry skinin gently using a sponge or washcloth. Children with dry skin must use unscented soaps and cleansers. If your child is below the age of 1 year, clean his body using only water.
  4. Applying moisturizer on the child’s skin is extremely important for preventing occurrence of skin disorders like eczema. However, you must make sure that the moisturizer is applied at the right time for enjoying its benefits. Apply the moisturizer when you child’s skin is damp i.e. immediately after bath. The moisturizing lotions and creams you choose for your child should not contain alcohol and perfumes like Lubriderm, Cetaphil or Eucerin.
