The vitamins essential for improving female fertility are:
Vitamin B6:
This vitamin possesses the ability of promoting female fertility; it works by regulating the reproductive hormones of women. A woman might suffer from infertility due to luteal phase defect. What is luteal phase? It is the time between ovulation and menstruation, which generally lasts for around 14 days on an average. During luteal phase, the body of a woman produces high levels of estrogen and progesterone; the increase in production of these two female hormones stimulates the uterine lining of women to thicken for receiving the fertilized eggs and promoting implantation. Women suffering from luteal phase defect will have shorter luteal phases, as a result of which their uterus fails to support new pregnancies; this results in miscarriage. Vitamin B6 helps in increasing the length of the luteal phase and thus improves fertility of women.
Vitamin C:
Women might also suffer from infertility due to oxidative stress. Vitamin C with its antioxidant properties helps in preventing the damages caused by oxidative stress and eventually helps in improving female fertility. The food sources of vitamin C include: Brussel sprouts, tomatoes, strawberries, cantaloupe, cauliflower, broccoli, grapefruit, oranges, green peppers, watermelon etc.
Vitamin B9:
Every woman must consume a minimum of 400mcg of vitamin B9 every day after attaining childbearing age. This vitamin is not only known for its ability of supporting fertility, but is also essential for proper growth of the fetus. What are the common food sources of vitamin B9? To make sure that they are having enough vitamin B9, women must consume breakfast cereals having folic acid in plenty. Green and leafy vegetables like spinach, dried beans, peas and citrus fruits are also rich sources of vitamin B9.
