I’m the foremost one to confess not doing healthy during Halloween. As a child i’d start sorting my booty, the packets of pretzel, animal cracker got plonked into a ‘solely once the great fare has been exhumed’, tossed to the side for the jumbo-sized candies which the ‘real cool’ neighbours doled out. A happening Halloween was one laden with bagful of processed pieces of fatty sugar encased in attractive shimmering packing at the conclusion of the night – sure-fire way to putting me into a sugar-shocked state for many days later as I slyly gobbled down these sticky sweets at every chance.

As a grown-up, I have been identified as one all for sampling the treats while I await the next masked ghost and goblin to arrive at the door (it is important to check that the treats are fresh before handing them to little ones, right?). Also it could be a true scuffle not to split from my kid’s sacks afterwards. I have comforted myself while hiding the daubed wrappings that it is just for a single night, so what’s wrong in indulging? However, contrarily it is just the foremost night in the 2-month gala of indulgences yearly that one only regrets on stepping onto the weighing scales on New Year and then vowing to not repeat it anymore.

Hence, this year I am going to do the right, healthful thing and finding ways of minimizing the damages to myself and the kids. However, I rebuff not wanting to be that house well-known all through the quarter as the location to be avoided since they offer the healthful stuff that many would rather not want.

Firstly why not give healthy conventional treats a chance – it does not necessarily have to translate to dry, sawdust-like, whole-wheat less fat biscuits. Also rather than tossing in the conventional apples or pears that could be heavy in lugging about for children they could be given dry fruits, fruit snack or mixed nuts.

Considering non food treat options –

Every treat does not necessarily have to be sugared and instead try handing out an array of sticker, bubble, mini-activity book or other toys as a smarter substitute. One should not offer small-sized toy items to kids below three years of age so that accidental choke cases do not arise.
