In a bizarre and rather rare twist of medical destiny, a fourteen-year-old school going girl instantaneously has blood welling up from her pores, leaving all in the doctor fraternity perplexed.
Twinkle Dwivedi hailing from India has an unidentified disorder wherein her skin emits blood in the absence of any form of cuts, scratches or abrasions.
The teen from North India, had also had blood transfusions subsequent to having bled from ocular, nasal, hairline, neck and even the heel of her feet areas nearly fifty instances on a day-to-day basis.
The girl stated that she oozes blood from her scalp, hands, eyes, ear, nose and other areas of her body though there is no associated hurting or painful sensations felt when the bleeding commences. She however does mention of the intense tiredness and at times headaches she experiences due to this apparent bleeding.
An eminent doctor in the field of paediatric blood speciality, Dr. George Buchanan, having worked in Britain, flew to India for scrutinizing Twinkle’s rare situation. Dr. Buchanan paid a visit to her kin at the Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai for observing the girl’s bleeding.
Dr. Buchanan was invited into the kin’s hotel accommodation room for witnessing the bleeding that started no sooner that her hair was parted. He was surprised to see no indications of cuts, bruises or even reddishness on the skin to be able to explain what elicited the bleeding process.
Dr. Buchanan stated that it did not appear physically probable for blood seepage via intact, unbroken skin surface. He also mentioned not having noted any marks of grazes or bruises on any part of her body.
Dr. Buchanan and his group of reputed specialists performed a battery of tests inclusive of one wherein they made a cut on the girl’s skin for timing how soon the bleeding halted. Tests reveal that she could be having a mild version of a clotting problem that means improper adhering of platelets to one another. However, this is not adequate enough for expounding the impulsive, uninitiated bleeding.
Experts intend on carrying out round the clock supervision of the girl for which close-circuit surveillance cameras would be continually tracking the girl to spot precisely how the bleeding initiates.
Dr. Buchanan admits to have never previously witnessed such a condition.
The girl has not been able to pursue normal schooling due to being disallowed from classes due to her bleeding.
Just a year back, an analogous case of a boy, Calvino Inman from the U.S., Rockwood, Tennessee, also started emitting blood from his eyes and he is under-observation and being studied by experts there for deciphering a way to identify and treat this condition.
